Migrating blog to Hugo
Published on January 4, 2026.

In 2013, I decided to start a blog. Static site generators was growing in popularity at that time and I wanted to use one that
- was implemented in Python
- use reStructuredText as the primary markup language
- maybe built on top of Sphinx
My options at that time were, in alphabetic order,
I decided to use Tinkerer and, soon, the first version of my blog was online.
In 2015, Software Carpentry decided to migrate from Pandoc to Jekyll and I end up using Jekyll more. After some time using Jekyll due my contribution to Software Carpentry, I migrated my blog to Jekyll in 2016 and adopted the Millennial theme by Paul Le.
In 2021, my blog was inactive. And in 2022, the attempt to re-activate my blog failed.
In 2026, I attempt one more time to re-activate my blog and, this time, I decided to use Hugo given that I was familiar with Hugo after study, at my working place, how Hugo can be used in combination with Quarto at my work.
The content from the time that I was using Jekyll was imported but I should re-import the content to better organise assets like images and re-visit the content to mark the correct language.
